Sacred Lavender Bread


Lavender Bread

~LAVENDER BREAD ~

The symbolic & spiritual connotations of bread are worldwide, history deep & culturally rich ~ Bread is also written about from Faery Myths ~ By eating bread we keep away ‘bad faery’ magic ~ coincidentally many spiritual & religious followings use bread as symbolic for purifying our souls ~ There are many different recipes for Lavender Bread ~ Here is one of my favourites with my variations ~

ingredients

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • 2 tablespoons lavender honey

  • 2 tablespoons plus dried lavender blossoms

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup sour cream full fat (8 oz container)

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter ~ softened but not melted

  • 3 large eggs lightly whisked

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

 

preparation~

In a small milk saucepan simmer milk

add honey

add 1 tablespoon lavender blossoms.

Stir gently with love away from bottom of milk saucepan ~

Keep stirring with LOVE until honey dissolves

Remove from heat

~  cover ~

BLESS YOUR BREAD ~ Express gratitude ~

steep 30 minutes.

While steeping preheat oven to 350°F.

Butter and flour 10-cup fluted pan .

Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in medium bowl.

Strain milk mixture into another medium bowl

discard solids in strainer.

Whisk sour cream into milk ~ blending ~

Fluff  1 cup sugar and butter with a whisk in large bowl.

Add egg mixture 1/3 at a time ~beating until blended after each addition ~ when finished adding egg mixture

Add flour mixture alternately with milk mixture in 1/3 additions 3 xs beating just until smooth after each addition but for a delicate texture, mix in the dry ingredients just until the tea bread batter is blended.

Pour batter into your prepared pan ~

smooth top with coking spatula ~

45 minutes baking time or until straw or toothpick tester inserted near center comes out clean ~

For the first 10 minutes cool your lavender bread in your pan on a cooling rack ~ Then turn baked bread into a muslin type dish towel ~ wrap the bread gently and finish cooling on rack

Take your remaining Lavender blossoms & the powdered sugar and pour into a small sieve/strainer ~

PRESS sugar mixture through strainer.

SIFT strained powdered sugar & lavender blossom mixture over your bread.

Best when cooled and served with hearty butter like farm butter or on its own.
